Incoming Health Insurance (also known as Travel Health Insurance, Private Travel Insurance, Schengen Health Insurance) is mandatory for any student that is planning to arrive in Germany before their studies actually start as long as this period can not be covered by the Public Health Insurance funds.
Expatrio offers its customers DR-WALTER Incoming Insurance, which offers a holistic coverage for the period before studies. With the Expatrio Value Package and Health Insurance Plus, if you are insured with TK public health insurance, you are entitled to free Incoming Insurance for up to the first 92 days of your stay in Germany. The DR-WALTER Incoming Insurance will be cancelled automatically when you enroll at university after arrival in Germany.
If you are coming to Germany for a language course, a Studienkolleg, or are over the age of 30, you will be offered DR-WALTER Private Health Insurance. In such a case, you are not eligible for the free Incoming Insurance from DR-WALTER, though your Private Health Insurance also includes travel insurance for your trip to Germany. You will then be charged for the insurance from your arrival date in Germany.
