What is the Expatrio Scholarship?
The Expatrio Scholarship is a way for Expatrio to provide financial support to our customers who move to Germany to study.
There will be ten prize winners in 2025:
- the top prize is €15,000
- the second prize is €12,000
- the third prize is €9,000
- fourth to tenth place will receive prizes such as a new laptop, 6 months' rent, and German language lessons.
How can I apply for the Expatrio Scholarship?
All you have to do is Apply for the Value Package and send in your Expatrio Scholarship video submission by 30th September 2025. (The entries has been closed now. )

Please note that all of the following criteria must be met in order to be eligible to win the Scholarship:
- You have to be a new Expatrio Value Package customer. This can mean that:
- you apply for the Value Package now or
- you have the Expatrio Value Package already, but have not yet activated your Blocked Account and Health Insurance or
- you have already applied for a Blocked Account or Health Insurance, and you change to the Expatrio Value Package now on your Expatrio portal
- You will begin your studies in Germany in the Winter Semester 2025.
- You submit your video entry and Value Package application before the deadline date (30th September 2025).
- You will arrive in Germany and activate your Blocked Account and Health Insurance with Expatrio by 31st October 2025.
- Your video answers the Scholarship question in either English or German, or is recorded in another language with English or German subtitles.

Please note:
You can not rely on the money you will get with this scholarship to open the Blocked Account. One condition for applying for the scholarship is arriving in Germany and activating your Blocked Account, which already has the total amount.
Can I apply for the Expatrio Scholarship before I receive my university admission letter?
Yes, you can apply for the Expatrio Scholarship even before you receive confirmation of your university admission in Germany.
However, to qualify for the prize, you must start your studies in the Winter Semester of 2025 and you have to activate your Blocked Account and Health Insurance with Expatrio by 31st October 2025.
How and when will winners receive their prize?
Expatrio Scholarship winners will receive their prize money directly into the bank account they use for their Blocked Account payouts.
The winners will be announced by the end of November 2025, and will be awarded their prize money shortly after. We will contact the winners with exact details.
What can I spend my Expatrio Scholarship money on?
If you are one of our lucky Scholarship winners, then congratulations!
Maybe you will use it to purchase a new laptop for your studies, put it towards your rent, or enjoy yourself and discover Germany!
We encourage you to put the money to good use. Our Scholarship is created to help reduce your financial stress.
For the winners of prizes such as rent, and semester contribution fees - we will send the monetary value of these items directly to your bank account. You can then use this to spend on the prize.
