Many universities require an internship as part of your study program. A distinction is made between the following three types of internships:
- Intermediate internship: The internship is mandatory by the relevant study and examination regulations. The student must be matriculated at a university. Since you already have insurance, as a student, you do not need public health insurance.
- Preliminary or follow-up internship: It is mandatory to have health insurance when you decided to make a preliminary or follow-up internship. You will have to pay for it yourself.
- Voluntary internship: As a voluntary intern, you will be insured like a normal employee.
