In Germany you can apply for a public health insurance if you are:
- a student at a state-recognized university and you will be under 30 years old when the semester starts
- an employee of a German company (including a voluntary internship)
Foreign/International Students
Foreign/International students are required to have a health insurance in Germany as it is needed for enrollment at the university. Students are offered one at a special rate so it is more affordable!
Please note that the public health insurance coverage begins with the semester start date and there might be an insurance gap should you arrive in Germany earlier. We recommend to opt-in for our free incoming travel health insurance during the application process to cover you between your arrival date and semester start date.
This only applies if you are not older than 30 years and studied 14 semesters or less so far.
Students who have completed more than 14 semesters of University or Students over the age of 30
If you already completed more than 14 semesters or if you are a university student over 30 years old we will set you up with the Provisit Student private health insurance as we can not offer the public health insurance to you unfortunately.
Can I insure my dependants?
The biggest advantage of the public health insurance is that you can also insure your dependants at no extra costs! Your spouse, life partner and children can be covered by your insurance. For this your collective income can not exceed a certain level and your dependant(s) will have to live with you in Germany.
