To keep your bank account* live you need to make sure that your valid German visa or residence permit document is uploaded to your Expatrio account at all times.
You can activate your bank account with your residence permit or the combinations of your visa document and your address proof document. You will have to upload a new residence permit or visa document when the latest document uploaded to your Expatrio account expires.
Please note: If your passport is from one of these countries: Australia, USA, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Israel, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) you do not have to upload a visa document when you first activate the account; an address proof alone would be sufficient. However, after 6 months you must upload a residence permit to keep your bank account live.
We will notify you via your Expatrio app when it is time to upload a new document. Regardless of how did you activate your account originally (with our without a visa/residence permit document) your bank account will be suspended if you do not submit your up to date residence permit or visa document in time.
To learn more about the account suspension please check our related article here.
Important: If you do not upload the valid residence permit document in time, you will have 10 days grace period and your account will have to be closed afterwards.
