This article explains what an unblocked amount is, how it appears in your 06 Blocked Amount Confirmation, and the steps to add your tuition fee as an unblocked amount when making a transfer.
What is an Unblocked Amount?
When you transfer money to your blocked account (up to €25,000 in total), it can include:
- The blocked amount required by German authorities for your visa application
- Blocked account Set-up fee, monthly service fees, and buffer fee
- An unblocked amount (optional additional funds)
The unblocked amount is any extra money you decide to transfer on top of the required blocked amount and fees.
This unblocked amount will also appear on your 06 Blocked Amount Confirmation once all funds arrive in your account.
Important: If your total blocked account balance exceeds €25,000, you must provide a document from the German embassy or foreigners office handling your visa application that shows that you need that amount blocked.
How can I transfer my tuition fee as an unblocked amount?
Sometimes German authorities may require you to show your semester tuition fee as an unblocked amount in your blocked account. You can do this when making your transfer.
Here’s how it works:
- Log in to your Expatrio user portal - click on the My payment section under Blocked account page.
- Initiate your payment. In the 'Enter transfer amount’ field add the amount you want to transfer, including the amount for the tuition fee. Note: If you have already received the 06 blocked account confirmation document, please contact our customer service team and we will assist you with this process.
- Once all your funds arrive, the amount will be shown on your 06 blocked amount confirmation document.
Example:
- Required blocked amount + fees = €13,000
- Tuition fee = €5,000
- Total transfer amount = €18,000
In this case, your 06 Blocked Amount Confirmation will show the extra €5,000 as an “Additional Unblocked Amount.” You can see the example below:
How to get my unblocked amount after I arrive in Germany?
The unblocked amount will be automatically disbursed to a bank account under your name after you arrive in Germany and activate the blocked account.
