Part of the standard private health insurance service we offer with Ottonova Study Secure and Provisit Student private health insurance is sending your health insurance information digitally to your university.
This is often referred to as the M10 process and is required for your university enrollment.
We initiate this process within one week after your application is approved to ensure your university receives the information on time.
As you have private health insurance via Expatrio, getting your insurance data to your university includes documenting that you are exempt from statutory/public health insurance.
The exemption process is also known as Befreiung von der gesetzlichen Krankenversicherungspflicht in German.
It is valid for the duration of your studies and cannot be reversed, which means you can only be privately insured while you are enrolled at a German university.
This means you cannot switch to public health insurance at the moment.
However, you can choose to be publicly or privately insured after your studies end.
You agreed to this process when you originally applied for private health insurance.
Important: Being privately insured will not cause any issues for you.
The private health insurance you have via Expatrio is substitutive health insurance with excellent coverage.
