The insurance start date shown on your insurance certificate depends on the type of insurance you have with Expatrio.
Public Health insurance and Private health insurance (TK, ottonova, Provisit Student)
For Expatrio health insurance plans such as TK public health insurance, ottonova private health insurance, and Provisit Student private health insurance, the insurance start date is based on your university’s official semester start date, not your actual arrival date in Germany.
This is normal and expected.
Your insurance coverage officially begins when your studies start, as required by German regulations.
Educare24 Travel Health Insurance and Incoming Insurance (included in the Value Package)
If you have the Educare 24 travel health insurance or incoming insurance included in your Expatrio Value Package, the insurance start date is different.
In this case:
The insurance start date is set to your stated arrival date
You will see this date on your Incoming Insurance Certificate
Incoming insurance is designed to cover you before your semester begins, for example during your first days or weeks in Germany until your semester official begins.
